Royal Norfolk & Suffolk Yacht Club

1100 BST 9th June

The country is in limbo following the election yesterday and we are still in Lowestoft. We arrived on Monday.

A few Dutch boats sailed home this morning. I lost my resolve to leave yesterday on what will be a fairly long sail so early in the voyage. Today is looking better. I hope to be tucked up in Scarborough tomorrow afternoon and will leave about 1400 today.

There is much to be said for being weatherbound in Lowestoft. The Royal Norfolk and Suffolk Yacht Club, founded in 1859 is special.

It’s not the cheapest berth at £33 a night including electricity but few places can offer such a beautiful building with such great facilities.

The YC staff make a visitor very welcome. The Harbour Masters are Stuart and Geoff.

Sue looks after the dining room and I can highly recommend the food prepared by Head Chef Johnny and assistant Kevin.  The fish pie was superb.

For those who might like a bed for the night the club has rooms, some of which are ensuite.
